The Council of the European Union says it has adopted a decision establishing a Lebanon support mission with an initial three-year mandate and civilian and military advisory-and-training pillars. Its release says operational planning continues and a separate Council decision is needed to launch the mission. The establishment announcement advances the previously reported proposal; it does not establish deployment, a replacement for UNIFIL or a changed UN mandate.
