Iran's economy minister promises reforms in response to US economic pressure

Reuters reports that Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Iran would respond to US economic pressure with reforms. Deputy minister Morteza Zamanian said the ministry's economic task force was stepping up efforts to address wartime problems, according to Tasnim. These are attributed official statements, not evidence that reforms have been implemented or economic conditions improved.

Reuters' assessment relies partly on three anonymous senior Iranian sources. AP independently documents shipping constraints: Lloyd's List Intelligence counted 102 Strait transits last week and 126 the week before, versus at least 130 per day before the war, while TankerTrackers.com estimated a 28-day average of 5 million barrels per day exiting the strait. A later Reuters report cites preliminary Kpler data counting four aggregate commodity-vessel transits on September 3, versus nine the prior day and a recent 10-day average near 15; that daily count may be revised. These are historical aggregates, not live vessel data. AP and Kpler support the shipping-pressure component but do not establish the anonymous sources' broader assessment of Iran's ability to withstand pressure, and Treasury releases establish announced US actions rather than their effect. The status therefore remains attributed. The time is the original Reuters publication time and the marker is country-level. September 6 update: Reuters attributes the reform response to Madanizadeh through state media and the task-force account to Zamanian via Tasnim. Mehr repeats the same Tasnim interview, not independent corroboration. The current headline concerns announced intentions, not demonstrated economic improvement. The original report time and country reference remain; current military and vessel details are excluded.
