Kallas backs UNIFIL extension and describes proposed EU advisory mission

EU foreign-policy chief Kaja Kallas backs extending UNIFIL's mandate and says planning is complete for a proposed EU mission to train and advise Lebanon's armed forces, according to an expanded Arab News report and EEAS-published remarks. The remarks say formal establishment is expected from EU foreign ministers and that the mission would not replace UNIFIL. These are attributed positions and plans, not an approved UN mandate change or an operating new mission.

Kallas is the claimant for EU positions and mission planning. Arab News now carries an expanded report under its own byline and credits AFP; it is not a new independent corroboration of AFP's interview. The directly inspected EEAS remarks, marked 'Check against delivery', establish the institution's published position, not proof of every word delivered, formal Council approval or implementation. They explicitly distinguish the proposed mission from UNIFIL; no contrary account or approved mandate change was inspected. The earlier parliamentary petition remains attributed to Melhem Khalaf via L’Orient Today. UNIFIL's existing link remains legal background checked October 6, not freshly revalidated. Original publication-minute dating and representative country marker are retained; no force locations or movements are mapped and no identity is inferred.
