Urgency: Context · Evidence: Primary source
The Central Bank of Cyprus reports a provisional current-account deficit of €1.3056 billion in the second quarter of 2026, compared with €697.2 million a year earlier. Excluding special-purpose entities by treating them as non-residents reduces the reported deficit to €1.0335 billion. Net external debt fell to €8.5254 billion. These historical estimates are subject to revision and do not by themselves establish an immediate financial crisis.
What the sources establish
The CBC's October 5 release directly supplies the provisional estimates. Cyprus Mail reports the same data, rounding the deficit to €1.31 billion; this is consistent but not independent measurement. Revisions and the difference between headline and SPE-adjusted coverage remain important limitations; no material disagreement was located. The bank gives a publication date without an hour. Event time uses Cyprus Mail's later publication minute, not the bank's release time or the April–June reporting period. The whole-degree coordinate is representative; no community identity is inferred.
