Reuters analysis says US munition likely hit wedding gathering in southern Iran

Reuters said four weapons experts who reviewed verified images and video found the damage consistent with a direct hit; three assessed the weapon as likely US rather than an errant Iranian air-defence missile. An AP team later visited the wedding compound, documented the damage and reported local accounts that five people died and more than 60 were wounded. The US is investigating and has not accepted responsibility.

AP and Reuters independently reviewed imagery. Reuters verified images and video and consulted four weapons experts, all of whom found the damage consistent with a direct hit and three of whom assessed a US weapon as likely. An AP team later visited Kuhestak, directly observed the damaged wedding compound and interviewed residents; AP also reported that imagery pointed to US guided munitions but could not determine where every photographed fragment was collected. The US is investigating and has not accepted responsibility. AP reported five deaths, including one wounded person who died later, and more than 60 wounded; those figures remain based on Iranian media and local accounts rather than an independent official tally. The Iranian-civilian label is explicit and material; the earlier Baluch label has been removed because the cited reports did not explicitly establish that identity. The displayed time is an approximate evening reference and the town marker omits the compound and other sensitive sites.

4 Eyl 2026 05:33 UTC — Added Reuters' verified-imagery analysis and US-investigation context, recorded convergence on the Iranian state-TV toll of five, and changed verification from disputed to corroborated while preserving attribution caveats.

4 Eyl 2026 17:06 UTC — Added AP's on-site reporting and local account of the fifth death, strengthened venue-damage corroboration, and removed the unsupported Baluch identity tag.
