Shafaq reports contractors seeking delay to Iraq's new exchange rate

Shafaq News reports that the Iraqi Contractors Union has asked the prime minister to delay the new exchange-rate decision, citing effects on government contracts. MP Ibtisam Al-Hilali has called for parliamentary reconsideration. The Finance Ministry says it adopted a 1,500-dinar base rate and suspended advance customs payments; previously announced bank and consumer rates are 1,510 and 1,520. Requests for reconsideration do not establish a reversal, and practical implementation remains unverified.

Kaynakların ortaya koydukları

The cabinet and central bank are the rate-announcement claimants. AP independently produced reporting agreeing with Shafaq on the earlier announced ministry and consumer rates, not a bank-transaction check. New Shafaq reports attribute the delay request to the Iraqi Contractors Union, reconsideration to MP Ibtisam Al-Hilali, and the base rate and customs-payment suspension to the Finance Ministry. These new responses are not independently corroborated; original letters and circulars were not inspected. Opposition to the decision is not evidence of repeal. No material rate disagreement was found; actual implementation, dollar access and economic effects remain unresolved. The original UTC publication-minute event time and rounded representative country marker are retained. This update excludes market forecasts and identifies no private person or community.
