COMMUNITY HUB

Yazidis

Reporting on Yazidi people and institutions where sources explicitly establish identity and explain its relevance to the development.

This hub provides a route into published stories explicitly tagged Yazidis. The label is used when reliable reporting establishes the identity and makes it necessary to understand the development; it is never inferred from a person's name, a locality or an organisation associated with the area. This is a story index rather than a population map. It should help readers follow public decisions, cultural work, education, livelihoods, rights and civic participation, alongside reporting on displacement, recovery and security when those developments are genuinely newsworthy.

Reporting about recovery should distinguish a pledge, an administrative decision and a documented outcome. A return figure, a compensation announcement and an account of access to services are different kinds of evidence, each with a producer and reporting period. The experiences described by one interview or one organisation should not be presented as the experience or preference of every Yazidi person. When a spokesperson makes a claim about community representation, the report should identify that capacity and preserve relevant disagreement rather than implying a single shared political voice.

Sensitive accounts require care in both verification and presentation. Reports should not identify vulnerable individuals, disclose shelter or service locations under threat or aggregate details that could create new risks. An institutional statement may be an important primary account, but allegations about perpetrators or responsibility need independent support. Sources that republish the same testimony or wire dispatch do not independently corroborate it. The evidence note should explain who observed what, where access was limited and which claims remain unresolved, using plain language rather than an unexplained confidence score.

Country and regional links offer additional context without deciding anyone's identity or political allegiance. Geographic markers remain coarse enough to orient the reader safely and are not evidence of a precise event site. Time labels distinguish when something happened from when a source reported it. Use the dated change history to follow substantial updates and corrections to a stable story, instead of interpreting each revision as a separate event. Older stories may remain useful beyond the life of their routine map pins, and a correction should remain accessible rather than being concealed by an archive action.

Shafaq reports US support statement for Nineveh communities and heritage research

Shafaq reports that US Chargé d’Affaires Steven Fagin reaffirmed support for Nineveh’s religious and ethnic communities, explicitly including Christians and Yazidis. Citing the US Embassy, it says he also welcomed a proposed heritage and archaeology research centre involving Nineveh, the University of Chicago and TARII. These are stated commitments and support for a partnership, not proof of improved protections, completed facilities or delivered funding.

Christian Alliance seeks merit-based cabinet representation, Shafaq reports

Shafaq reports that Iraq's Christian Alliance called for a ministerial post to be awarded on merit rather than political bargaining and said it would pursue legal channels. The report explicitly identifies Chaldean, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian representatives. These are political demands, not a court finding or cabinet appointment; earlier conflicting accounts of the completed roster remain unresolved.

Yazidi representatives oppose proposed military appointment to Shingal district administration

Rudaw interviewed Yazidi representatives and Nineveh's deputy governor about a proposal to put a military commander in charge of Shingal's district administration for three months. They opposed the proposal and called for civilian administration and consultation with residents. The report does not establish that an appointment has been made.
